WALES // STRATA
Wales is a country of layers. Its mountains and valleys carry the marks of deep geological time, where slate, stone, and soil reveal the slow work of nature. Yet these same landscapes also bear the weight of human presence: abandoned mines, weathered farmhouses, ancient castles, and the invisible paths of migration and memory. In this project, I set out to explore the dialogue between nature and humans in Wales — a place that feels at times wild and profoundly historical, whilst at times commercial and current. With my camera, I tried to capture how these layers coexist: the raw beauty of untamed landscapes alongside the traces of those who have lived, worked, and struggled here. The photographs do not aim to document in a literal sense, but to suggest a rhythm of continuity and erosion, resilience and disappearance. Nature here is never separate from human history; rather, it absorbs it, covering ruins with moss, reshaping scars into valleys, and reminding us that time itself is layered.
